“Holy Shit here we go!”
Yep, we have really gone and done it now. The Alterno Cougar Mummas have entered New Zealand’s premier cycling event, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
Yeah, we don’t do things by halves at all, well actually in this case we are in fact, but not in the way you might expect. Because this time we are taking on the full 80km, half lake event on the 26th of November 2016. Count it… Sept 29th … Oct… Nov… CRAP! less than two months away.
Some of us have a semi-regular training schedule, but at distances of not more than 40km, and some have covered irregular training distances of barely over 60km.
‘ME thinks we need to kick it up a gear if we are hoping to make it to the finish line’.
Captain Cougar Kellie reckons that the team whilst not at their peak are entering this event on a participation basis with full aspirations to finish the full 80km distance.”Let’s remember the Alterno Cougar Mummas ‘like regular women’ are upholding busy personal and professional schedules and this event is not for its competitive nature, but a training incentive to ensure we are ready for our main event”.
Capitan Cougar expects the team to complete the 80km road cycling event in about 4-5 hours as opposed to 6-12 hours allowed for the Spirited Women race. “Spirited Women is a multi-disciplined event in which road cycling is not featured, so the Taupo Challange will serve as a reminder of maintaining fitness and endurance.”
For the Team the Taupo Challenge is held at a convenient lead-up time to the main adventure race event and is the first of two major events they have committed to incorporating into their training schedule, the second of which is the REV60 in February 2017.
Wish the Alterno Cougar Mummas luck on their journey to the finish line. We have set ourselves an awesome challenge and we want to take you along for the ride.
